SiMPSON DiD iT!

...we UPSET our BiGGEST RiVAL, the Central Dutch in a nervewracking, but AMAZiNG football game last Saturday!

It was a COLD, COLD day, but the STORM was HOT...we went ahead 17-7; Central fought back to tie it (thankfully we held 'em to only a field goal) & the game went in to OT. We scored on a 2nd down 25 yard pass. Then on Central's 2nd down, STORM senior Tim Stover INTERCEPTED it to WiN 24-17! The fact that it was AT CENTRAL made the win even better.

I wish I could see the replay! :D

This was the PERFECT end to a 7-3 season & PERFECT beginning to a new SiMPSON STORM DOMiNATiON..it was very special for the seniors, the NEW coaching staff, the 8 SPiRiTED shirtless guys cheering on a freezing day, & the entire SiMPSON community.

FeBrUaRy FrEnZy!

I opened my planner this past weekend - of course finding large amounts of ink & no empty boxes. I may be an overwhelmed busy-bee, but for GOOD REASON!

I always write down my students who are visiting & this month is just as this title calls it...a fReNzY! I have 34 out-of-state students visiting within 3 weeks, WOOT, WOOT! :)

This past Saturday we hosted a few hundred students & parents on campus for Winter Visit Day, so I had quite a few juniors, as well as some seniors join us for that. This is what especially made my missed flight Friday night such a bummer - I also missed out on seeing my students that day! :( Thankfully most were juniors & I will get to see them again in the next year.
The following other students are checkin' out the aWeSoMe SIMPSON campus:

Kayla from Nebraska auditioned for a music activity scholarship, wants to major in criminal justice & psychology, is a potential Storm volleyball player & wants to get involved with RLC (Relgious Life Community) & intramurals.

Kyle from Arizona wants to major in environmental science or managament, is a potential Storm football player & track star & would like to get involved with RLC.

Kaylee from Colorado participated in Theatre Scholarship Audition Days last Thursday & Friday & would also like to get involved with music activity.

Melanie from Nebraska auditioned for a music major scholarship, is also wanting to study French, participate in SGA (Student Government Association) & Theatre Simpson.

Anna from Minnesota came back for a 2nd visit during Winter Visit Day, wants to major in communication studies & art, as well as participate in RLC and Theatre Simpson as activities.

Dominicia from Michigan wants to major in forensic science & pre-law & get involved with SGA, cheerleading, Greek Life & Storm volleyball.

Cameron from Washington is a senior who may be on the field next fall as a Storm football player, is undecided about what he wants to study, but considering P.E., sports administration or math. His sister Whitney is currently a sophomore Storm volleyball & softball player for us!

Amber from Minnesota visited today with her boyfriend & little baby (awww!) :)

Logan from Nebraska is a senior who is visiting tomorrow to meet with the Storm football & baseball coaches, tour campus for the first time & then meet with a business professor.

This coming Thursday & Friday is my Nebraska Van Trip - a fun road trip with prospective students! I pick the kids up in Omaha, bring 'em to campus & then have a pizza dinner with their student overnight hosts. They are staying in either a dorm, fraternity or sorority, will be sitting in on classes & meeting with professors on Friday. I then take 'em back to Omaha Friday afternoon...so, it's like a day & night in the life of a college student!

Eric is on the Van Trip & has been named one of our George Washington Carver Scholars. He is thinking about studying pre-engineering or music performance

Eva will be taking her 4th visit to Simpson with the Van Trip & is excited to stay where her Grandma once lived - Pi Beta Phi sorority! :) She has already decided on Simpson, wants to major in math while staying involved with music, RLC & intramurals.

Nathan visited a few Saturdays ago with his mom, but is coming back to take an even closer look at Simpson in action during on the Van Trip. He is undecided on what he wants to major in, but has thought about pre-engineering and then wants participate in Simpson's KSTM radio station, intramurals & possibly Storm wrestling. He will be the first one in his family to attend college - awesome!

Cara will be the lone junior on the Van Trip & will be checking out the math, chemistry, pre-pharmacy, Greek Life, RLC & Dance Team programs during her visit.

Ellen & Jen are juniors from California & New York visiting this month, too! I know Jen is interested in our Great Ape Trust program & scholarship within our psychology program.

This weekend is Music Scholarship Audition weekend, so seniors Stephanie, Jill, Candace, Caitlin & Andy from of Illinois, Nicole of Nebraska & Molly of Wisconsin will all be makin' some tunes to impress our faculty!

Ryan from California will be making his first trip to Iowa at the end of the month to visit campus & meet with the Storm football coaches.

AND...

Lastly, but certainly NOT least, a (cross my fingers) future Storm softball player, Jacki from Illinois, will be doing an overnight visit with a player next week. She is interested in our forensic science & biochemistry programs.

In addition to all this, yesterday I had a sUpEr Nebraska Open House in Omaha! I was nervous at first, because Des Moines & Simpson was getting hit with a blizzard, so the few student ambassadors, other Admissions Counselors & professors couldn't make it over to help me. They were also supposed to bring me the display boards with pictures & information. Thankfully, though, I scrounged up enough Simpson stuff around my house to sit out... Also, a Simpson sophomore from Omaha (Courtney) & our Head Football Coach Glo came over Saturday, so they were able to join me Sunday. I met with 7 great students - 3 juniors, 1 sophomore & 3 senior football players. One of the girls came with a 1961 alum, whom she knows through church & Lindy, a 2006 alum now working for the Kiewet Commercial Building Group in Omaha stopped by. Lindy worked with our Transfer Director in the Admissions Office when she was a student, so it was cool to see her again. We went to dinner after the Open House to catch up...

The next time you hear from me, I'll probably be down in another warm, sunny region of the country! ...Fort Lauderdale, Florida! I head down there this Saturday & am really ExCiTeD!
